The Pax Residency

The Pax Residency is a program for arts graduates and emerging artists. It aims to give these artists, whatever medium they use, the space and time to explore new forms and techniques. As part of this exploration, the residing artists lead workshops for each other to teach new skills and broaden their practice.

Organised and hosted by Liliana Tucker, the residency takes place in Winterslow, in the centre of nature, where forests and fields collide. The resident artists are encouraged to use natural forms and materials in their practice during the residency to create a sense of harmony between themselves and nature. When exhibiting the work they have made during the residency, the artists consider the location, Sonder Coffee, whilst also considering the countryside where their work was made.

Pax - the Latin noun from which the English word “peace” is derived.

Sonder - the feeling one has on realising that every other individual has a life as full and as real as one’s own.

This exhibition considers the repurposing of manmade and natural materials. This space contains fragments of past lives in the form of branches, fabrics, springs and paper. These elements have been stripped to their bare bones to be reimagined as sculptural elements. The sculptures here today are reflections of the artists' week-long residency, a souvenir of what they’ve experienced.
